How Gulmarg becomes an integral part of Golf Holiday in India?

This 18 holes hilly course is one of the most picturesque and ancient courses in Gulmarg, built in 1911 by the British. Since then, this club is known as the Golfing Mecca of India.

Initially in the late 19th century during 1890-91 this club used to be a 6- holes course made by Colonel Neville Chamberlain. Three more holes were added in 1896 in the course below the house of Raja Amar Singh. In 1901Gulmarg received a donated land from Maharaja of Kashmir for placing out another course as the Upper Golf Course. Later a 9 holes course was also built in 1915 which is popular to be known as ‘Rabbits Course.’ Far ahead with the Upper course, lower i.e. the old course and the Rabbit Course the resort got fully covered by these courses, where a separate 6 holes course for children is also present. Since then the club has witnessed amateurs and professionals tournaments and welcomed players from all over the world who are on their golf holiday in India of more than 100 years.

Now this Course is transmuted as the longest course in India, fixed out within a field redesigned by Ranjit Nanda and associates. On 18th September, 2011 the course got formally inaugurated by Mr. Omar Abdullah, the Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir. J&K government takes care of the club maintenance and many tournaments like Duncan Vase, O.P. Vase, Civil Cup and Nedou’s Cup have taken place here as well as a prime destination for the players who come to explore their golf holiday in India.

The 18 holes course with dual sided driving range of over 600 yards continuously gives a strict test to players during their tournaments or golf holiday in India. Players always need to be comfortable with the landscape of the course and very alert while selecting their shots. At the Clubhouse there is a large practice green. A three learning holes golf academy is there. The greens on the course are soft, large, rippling and matching with the natural scene.
